From Austere to Astoria

The bathroom of a one bedroom apartment in Balmain was in serious need of an update. Built in the late 1950s, a period of economic austerity, bathrooms were viewed as a space providing basic necessities, and nothing more. Fast forward to today, and we are far more style conscious. We view the bathroom as an integral part of the home's aesthetic.

With that in mind, the owners made several key decisions to improve the look and functionality of their small bathroom. By removing the bath and replacing it with a hobless, frameless shower, plus virtually invisible 'smart' floor wastes, they created a more free-flowing space which allowed for the inclusion of a wall-hung vanity.

By choosing the Astoria pattern from our Classic Mosaic range, with its strong diagonals, the result is a visually larger room. We also recommended they combine this timeless floor pattern with 200x50mm gloss white 'finger' tiles, which were vertically stack bonded - a common laying format of the era.

The final result is a light, bright, stylishly practical and easy maintenance bathroom that will still look good in 60years time.
