Olde English Tiles Australia was founded in 1982 by Antonino Gaudioso who, in 1972, emigrated to Australia after several years engaged in restoring buildings in Milan, Italy and Stuttgart in Germany. After years of extensive research of Victorian and Federation properties in this country, he identified a growing demand for the restoration of geometric and tessellated floors plus complementary wall tiles and accessories.

In 1983, after submitting a design and samples to the National Trust, the company was engaged to restore the entrance foyer of Curzon Hall. Other commissions from the National Trust and the NSW Heritage Council followed. Olde English Tiles Australia is renowned as the first tile company in Australia commissioned to restore many of the country's historic and heritage landmark buildings using tessellated tiles; buildings such as Kirribilli House (the Australian Prime Minister's official residence in Sydney), the world famous Queen Victoria Building, and St. Andrew's Cathedral (Sydney), St. Patrick's Cathedral and the Rialto Building (Melbourne) to name just a few.

The company prides itself on manufacturing decorative wall tiles with a distinctly Australian flavour. In late 1994 it released the "Aboriginal Theme Tiles" - authentic Aboriginal designs created in conjunction with the Tobwabba Art Group.

This collection went on to win the Premier Award at the 1995 Tilex National Design Competition and has continued to be popular, especially with overseas markets.

As a commitment to quality management, the company undertook quality certification and was awarded accreditation in accordance with ISO 9001 in 1996.

In 2007 the company relocated to new premises in Camperdown (182-186 Parramatta Rd) after more than twenty years operating from it's original headquarters. The following year OETA undertook the radical step of creating a division specialising in modern tiles - Belmondo Tiles, which promptly took out the award for Best Stand Design (under 36mts) at the 2008 Full Frontal Tile & Stone Expo.

OETA offers a ‘design advice service’ in Sydney and Melbourne. Just go to the Request a Quote page, fill out the form and email it to us. We will then contact you to arrange an on site meeting, where a consultant will advise on the design, colour combination and the type of tiles. Shortly after OETA will provide you with a sample board of your tessellated pattern. Our DAS consultant can also measure and quote supply and fix, or supply only.

Installing a tessellated floor requires more than a competent tiler. These beautiful, intricate floors require craftsmanship.

There are many tilers in the marketplace. Many of them are good, but few know how to lay a tessellated floor well, or at all. Of those that have some ability, there are a number that claim some association with Olde English Tiles Australia, even misappropriating our name and images of OETA projects to promote themselves. What these tilers lack (amongst other things) is the backing of a company that has been operating since 1982, specialising in one thing - tessellated tiles.
